The title says it all, all those called to be children of God must once and for all stop paying tithes and offerings to those who claim you HAVE to pay such tithes and offerings.
In this study we will dive into the heart of the matter by explaining the following:
A-Who was ordained to collect tithes and offerings?
B-The purpose of tithes and offerings.
C-where were those commanded to pay those tithes and offerings supposed to take such tithes and offerings?
D-And finally, after laying that particular foundation, we will get into why the need to STOP paying tithes and offerings as it is done in the so called church, in our days.
A-Who was ordained to collect tithes and offerings
Hebrews 7 tells us that the levitites were commanded according to the law to collect tithes and offerings from their brethren. This commandment was ONLY given to this group of people according to the law.
Hebrews 7:5-12
King James Version (KJV)
5-And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:
6-But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
7-And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.
8-And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.
9-And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
10-For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.
11-If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
12-For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
B-The purpose of tithes and offerings
Hebrews 7:27 tells us that the purpose of these tithes and offerings were gifts and also sacrifices for sin.
Hebrews 7:27
27-Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
C-Where were those commanded to pay tithes and offerings supposed to take such tithes and offerings
Deuteronomy 12:5-13 tells us of the ONLY place where those tithes and offerings commanded by the law could be received.
Deuteronomy 12:5-14
King James Version (KJV)
5-But unto the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come:
6-And thither ye shall bring your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and heave offerings of your hand, and your vows, and your freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your herds and of your flocks:
7-And there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye shall rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein the LORD thy God hath blessed thee.
8-Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes.
9-For ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which the LORD your God giveth you.
10-But when ye go over Jordan, and dwell in the land which the LORD your God giveth you to inherit, and when he giveth you rest from all your enemies round about, so that ye dwell in safety;
11-Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; thither shall ye bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD:
1-2And ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God, ye, and your sons, and your daughters, and your menservants, and your maidservants, and the Levite that is within your gates; forasmuch as he hath no part nor inheritance with you.
13-Take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy burnt offerings in every place that thou seest:
14-But in the place which the LORD shall choose in one of thy tribes, there thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, and there thou shalt do all that I command thee.
D-Why the need to STOP paying tithes and offerings as preached in the so called church, in our days.
The word "Until" indicates a limit or an end to something.
For example if I tell you, I'll be at work until 4PM, that means after 4PM I will not be at work. Another example is if peradventure I tell you "This contract is valid until December 31st", that would meant that on January 1st, the contract is not valid any longer. Now keeping that in mind, we find that there was a time appointed for the law of moses to be replaced with something 'better'.
Hebrews 9:9-10
King James Version (KJV)
9-Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
10-Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
Hebrews 9:9-10 tells us that the gifts and sacrifices of the law were imposed (commanded) "until" the time of reformation, meaning they were not perpetual!
This is extremely important since it goes hand in hand with what our Lord and Master Jesus Christ told Brother Peter regarding the "children" being free.
Matthew 17:25-27
25-He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
26-Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
27-Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
So we knew there would be a "time" for reformation, this was spoken about also in Galatians 4:
Galatians 4
1-Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
2-But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
3-Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
4-But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5-To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6-And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
As we can see, now that we have come to know the truth, we are adopted sons of God, therefore the KING is our Father, so we no longer have to pay tribute. This alone shoulkd be enough to prove the point of not paying tithes and offerings, but for the sake of maintaning our rule of providing overwhelming scriptures as much as possible, to clear all doubt, let us continue, and look at it from the Hebrews 7 to 10 approach.
So let us divide this explanation into two branches the first being what Our Lord said about the children being free and the other what the word of God tells us in the book of Hebrews.
Taking it from what our Lord and Master Jesus Christ told us when He spoke to Peter, we see that paying tithes and offerings means that we deny God being our Father, since the children do NOT have to pay, yet we choose to pay, our actions speak saying that we have another father and that this Father (God) is NOT ours, therefore we are the children of a stranger.
Taking from the book of Hebrews, by paying tithes and offerings in a carnal way, we deny the once and for all payment done by our Lord and Master Jesus Christ, when He, Himself, made payment on the cross, once and for all for our transgressions.
So as we can see, our actions speak volumes of where our faith really is.
Let us stop denying our Father by paying something we do not have to as His Children, and also let us stop denying the sacrifice made by our Lord and Master Jesus Christ.
I ask you, that you please study the scriptures mentioned in this study, and meditate on them while asking God to open your understanding to the real truth.
May God bless you and increase your knowledge daily, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
